Basic Functions

Under general supervision, this position drives Buses to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules, charters, and special services. This role is expected to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner and to perform pre-trip inspections of assigned bus.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Drives Buses to transport passengers safely and courteously over specified routes to local or distant points according to time
schedules, charters, and special services.
Pick up bus operator supplies (i.e. lost pass claim form, route signs, defect cards, etc.) before starting scheduled and unscheduled work assignments.
Inspects MBus equipment including bus radio system for defects and makes records of any defects on defect cards. Reports any malfunctions of the bus radio system to Dispatcher.
Deposits all flags, temporary route signs, time cards, defect cards, communication devices, paddles, public guides, etc. in proper receptacles.
Follow parking instructions and procedures upon returning Authority vehicles to garage facility, relief point and other designated locations.
Signs on and signs off the farebox and radio.
Compiles with ADA requirements in delivering services.
Regulates heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
Compiles with local traffic regulations.
Follows procedures for the collection and processing of fares and counting passengers.
Reports and properly follows up on all accidents or unusual incidents in and on, or near buses.
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Performs other job related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required (ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire date).
Minimum one (1) to three (3) years general work experience to include driving experience and customer service experience.
Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years continuous employment in a direct public contact position is preferred.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must have been a licensed driver for at least three (3) years.
No Criminal Convictions for DWI's, DUI's, assault or possession of controlled substances.
No more than two (2) driving violations in the past three (3) years.
Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment performance evaluation Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, drug and alcohol screen and background investigation.
Valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain and maintain a Class B
